While you're reading this, I am probably banging
out prose inspired by the late, great Langston Hughes, whose poetry,
when I was in the sixth grade, burrowed deep into my soul for all
of eternity. Or I may be creating some blog rant about how I loathe
reality television and the sad, superficial images of women—especially
black women—we can’t seem to escape today. Perhaps I’m waxing philosophical
about the Hindu religious festival of Maha Kumbh Mela near the city
of Allahabad, which I find fascinating. Or writing about how running
marathon after marathon has made me the courageous, spirited, unstoppable
albeit foolhardy woman I am today. Writing is my joie de vivre.
It’s what I do. It’s who I am. It definitely defines a significant
part of me. Watch. Read. Learn.
